Restless Leg

Period Leg Movement (PLM) is characterised by repetitive leg movements during non -REM sleep, most commonly by the extension of the big toe, flexion of ankle, or knee, or hip every 20-40 seconds. PLMs may cause EEG arousals (brain awakenings), which reduce sleep quality and results in excessive daytime sleepiness.

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a complex lifelong sensor-motor disorder. Patients experience an intense, creeping sensation in the lower legs and feet, especially in the evenings, which is relieved by moving the legs. 80% of patients with RLS also suffer with PLMs and will have daytime and night symptoms.
